Melodrama
Weekend
The Grasse River Players will present DOUBLE TAKE AT
BEATRICE'S BOARDING HOUSE or THINGS AIN'T ALWAYS
WHAT THEY SEEM by Debbie McBeth Christiansen.
Beatrice,
the young, beautiful (but somewhat longwinded) owner
of Beatrice's Boarding House is in distress. If
business doesn't pick up soon, the honorable
establishment will have to close its doors forever.
If our poor heroine loses her abode, she and her
closest friends will find themselves on the town's
streets. Luther Swett, the cad, not only wants the
boarding house, but has his eyes on the beautiful
Beatrice. Beatrice
has a group of daffy boarders- deaf, cranky, ugly,
you name it. To save the boarding house from the
clutches of Luther Swett, she decides to do a talent
show. Grasse River Players invite all kinds of
talent to be a part of the "talent" show
and help save the boarding house.
Director,
Elaine Kuracina is this year's recipient of the St
Lawrence County Artist Recognition Award.
Additional featuring acts for Beatrice's talent
show for the Saturday show only: Fiddlers
LaBarge and Veils of the Nile.
This is an audience participation production for the
entire family - booing, hissing and cheering are
encouraged.
For more information about auditioning for the
melodrama or its talent show, call Elaine at
265-0864
Rehearsals will begin at the end of July.
In the Melodrama cast photo shown above, left to
right back row - Paul Hetzler, Esther Katz, Sarah
Sanger; left to right front Darren Blake,
Krista Freego, Jeannie Blake.
Also, the Sweet Adelines will be the featured
artists on this show.

Comedian
Dan St. Paul
After
a seven-year stint of headlining S.F. clubs in the
comedy duo Murphy-St. Paul, Dan launched out on his
own with a solo act that was to land him in the finals
of the nation's toughest comedy competition, The San
Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy
Competition. The reviews were astounding. Soon
after, Dan moved to Los Angeles and appeared on
several episodes of "An Evening at the Improv",
VH-1, MTV, and "Comic Strip Live". Since
then, he has opened for such superstars as Jerry
Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, and Vince
Gill. And in a testament to the classiness of his act,
Dan opened for the San Francisco Symphony (“Aren’t
these guys great? I knew them back when they were just
a garage band.”)
He appeared in the movie "Flubber" with Robin
Williams, and signed a recording deal with MCA
records. His “First Baseball Game” is the
most requested comedy piece on the nationally
syndicated “Bob and Tom Show”. He
also is the star of his own one-man play, "Outer
Mission, Middle Class."
Armed with a Bachelors Degree in Italian from UC
Berkeley, a teaching credential from San Francisco
State, and a Masters Degree in special education, the
majority of Dan's material comes from being a suburban
husband and father and dealing with the frustrations
of everyday life.
Corporate
clients include Hewlett Packard, National
Semiconductor, IBM, Intel, Nations Bank, Philips
Magnavox, Chevron, Blue Cross, and many, many more. He
customizes material for each client and event.
Dan lives in Foster City, CA with his wife Cara and
his son Roy. His website is www.danstpaul.com.

Eliza
Gilkyson
Eliza Gilkyson has
become one of the most respected musicians in roots,
folk and Americana circles. The Grammy-nominated
artist has appeared on NPR, Austin City Limits ,
Mountain Stage , etown, XM, Air America Radio and has
toured with Richard Thompson , Patty Griffin and Mary
Chapin Carpenter . “Beautiful World is
Gilkyson's masterpiece.” - All Music Guide . The
daughter of successful songwriter Terry Gilkyson ,
Eliza is a third generation musician who grew up in
Los Angeles knowing that her life would revolve around
music. “I got into it for all the wrong reasons,
more as a survival tool than anything else, but it
proved to serve me more than I dared to imagine.” As
a teenager, she recorded demos for her father, an
accomplished songwriter whose songs have been covered
by artists as diverse as Dean Martin , Johnny Cash
(“ Memories Are Made of This ”) and the White
Stripes (“Look Me Over Closely”), and whose
credits include such standards as “Greenfields,”
“Marianne” and “The Bare Necessities ” (from
the Disney film Jungle Book).
Opening for Eliza is Juno award winner, Ray
Bonneville.
"As
an album, "Beautiful World" features so
many elements that have made Gilkyson's 21st century
body of work so compelling: softness,
self-inventory, a prayer for mercy, psychological
depth...The breadth of the album's tone is
impressive." - Austin American-Statesman
“Gilkyson’s
signature as an artist is her courage. She lays it
all bare, in song and on stage.” - Austin American
Statesman
“Her
songwriting has a Dylanesque quality as her tunes
burst with edgy lyrics and poetic imagination. With
a knowing eye on the past, Eliza Gilkyson is making
folk music for the 21st Century, and it’s a
delightful thing to hear.” –
